Hi, my name is Jakob. I'm 26 years old and currently studying Smart Tech & AI Creator @ Howest Kortrijk.

As most kids born in the 90's I've always been fascinated by computers: the endless possibilities were ours to explore. In high school I studied Graphic Design where I learned the basics of designing & web development.

After high school I worked and traveled for a bit enjoying the wonders the world has to offer us. When I came back I was resolute in what I wanted to do next. I was going to study what I had enjoyed for the largest part of my life. In 2019 I started studying Media & Creative Technologies @ Howest Kortrijk. Since then I've learned a lot of new technologies and concepts and am interested in learning more.

During my studies I learned different techniques on how to develop websites and applications front- and backend but also, how to handle problems efficiently and individually.
I just recently came back from Mexico 🇲🇽. Where I did an exchange at Tec de Monterrey for 5 months. In these 5 months I had classes in English and Spanish where I continued my progress in Computer Science. I also traveled a big portion of Mexico, Guatemala and Belize during and after the semester!

I was part of a sales team that managed the IT part of the retail store media markt in Kortrijk.

Gainsbar is a famous beer bar in Kortrijk with 10 taps and over a 100 bottled beers. Working here learned me how to be social with customers, the commerce behind running a bar and some of the most delicious beers of the world.

Research Project: Wireframe to code

Research project and bachelor thesis

"Object detection in Wireframes using a pre-trained Faster R-CNN ResNet-50 FPN and conversion to a website using HTML (Wireframe to code)" This is the subject of my Research Project and thesis. I explored various solutions to this problem and made a prototype using Detecto library which uses a pretrained ResNet-50 FPN model as a base. This model is then used for transfer learning on my own dataset which contains wireframe elements. With these results I made a system which converts the different elements with there location to html elements and with a prewritten css to give it style. The main goal of the project was to as accurately as possible convert the wireframe to a working prototype with all the positions of the elements intact.

Project III: Diana

Group project for an external client

Our external client was Jimber, IT security provider based in Oostkamp
Jimber wanted to see if it was possible to create an indoor tracking app using bluetooth beacons.
We created an app in Flutter using existing libraries that gathered data from the bluetooth beacons. This data was sent to a k-nearest neighbor model, then we could track the location and display it in the app

HTML/CSS website with Javascript based an on existing API

My assignment is based on sun/mooncalc API. This gives information about the sun/moon. I've created a simple design using bright colors showcasing the time of day.
The design was made in Adobe XD and created using HTML/CSS and Javascript with some JQuery.

Group project for Howest

For this project we worked as a team to recreate the game Twister.We wanted to make it more interesting so children would be encouraged to exercise more.
We recreated the Twister board with pressure sensors and LEDs
With this we could add new game modes and a display with sound

Implement the A star algorithm to create a maze solver

Create a maze solver using an A star Algorithm in Python
In this assignment it was the intention to experiment with the A* algorithm and to calculate the distance between 2 points
I experimented with Euclidean, Manhatten and Diagonal Distance
I used Pygame to visualize the maze and solution

Project I: Sleep Easy

Build an IoT device using a raspberry Pi & 3 sensors

I built a device with an air quality, a humidity, a temperature and a dust sensor.
It measures all the air quality of the room and it saves the data in a database which can be accessed on a web app
The device automatically turns on an air purifier/humidifier when needed
